The parish of St. Augustine by-the-sea has been an integral part
of Waikiki since since 1854, and has been staffed by the servant leadership of
the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary since the parish's
beginning in a small temporary church near the ocean on what is now Kalakaua
Avenue.
Today, St. Augustine Church, with its neo-Gothic architecture and
sweeping stained glass windows, is a striking part of the Waikiki skyline, and
its parishioners and staff a vital part of the surrounding community. For
155 years, this parish has ministered to the spiritual and temporal needs of its
parishioners, the residents of Waikiki and visitors to our shores.
Blessed Damien and Blessed Marianne are models for our journey
of faith. We invite you to join with us in worship and service, whether you are
members of our Hawai'i 'ohana or visitors for a short time.
All are welcome. Together, let us proclaim the redeeming love of Jesus Christ
and practice our faith in a ministry of charity and love.
