    Sept. 22, 2020

Aloha! Today is Tuesday of the 25th Week in  Ordinary Time.

Sunday liturgy is at 5 p.m. Saturdays, 6 a.m,, 8 a.m., and 10 a.m. Sundays.  The 5 p.m. Sunday Mass has been cancelled for now.

There is no need to make a reservation to attend Mass. The  Bishop has lifted the obligation to attend Sunday Mass through October 31, 2020. Face masks and social distancing are required in the church, and all who enter the church must sign in and provide a contact phone number or email.

Sunday liturgy will be live-streamed this weekend at 5 p.m. Saturday at facebook.com/StAugustineHawaii and uploaded to YouTube at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Daily mass is at 7 a.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and there is a communion prayer service at 7 a.m. Mondays.

If you know of anyone who needs assistance in obtaining food, you can find resources at www.hawaiifoodbank.org. Aunty Carmen’s Kitchen at St. Augustine Church serves a hot meal from 11 a.m to noon Mondays through Fridays. If you need financial assistance, contact Aloha United Way to see which programs you may qualify for. Also, Our Kupuna is a community initiative project supported by the Hawaii VA Foundation to care for Hawaii’s vulnerable elderly during these difficult times. The nonprofit connects with sponsors who are willing to get groceries, medication and necessary supplies to our kupuna so they may stay safe at home until the virus outbreak passes.  To request assistance, call (808) 400-4506.

If you are financially struggling to cover rent or mortgage payments during this COVID-19 pandemic, Catholic Charities Hawaii may be able to help! Through a partnership with the state’s Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation, the agency is hoping to distribute $30 million of CARES Act Funds for eligible tenants in need by the end of the year. Even those who have never received government assistance may be able to qualify by calling the Catholic Charities hotline at 808-521-HELP.  Applicants may be able to receive up to $2,000 a month for rental or mortgage assistance on Oahu.

The parish of St Augustine Church is a welcoming faith community in the heart of Waikiki.  Our parish has been staffed since its beginning in 1854 by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the order that first brought the Catholic faith to Hawaii in 1827. St. Damien, who was a member of the Sacred Hearts order, and St. Marianne, Sister of the Third Franciscan Order of Syracuse, are our models of faith.

You have made us for yourself, Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.
