Letter to Parishioners March 20, 2020

Dear St. Augustine Parishioners:

We are living in extraordinary times, but we know our faith and our good and compassionate God will see us through this time.

For the time being, our parish office remains open and our hours next week will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. We ask that you call before coming in to the office or for information and for pastoral needs.

Mass intentions may still be requested, and intentions will be remembered during my daily private Mass.

We are continuing our outreach to those in need in Waikiki. Aunty Carmen’s Kitchen remains open from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays and we are still hosting the IHS shower van on Thursdays. The kitchen will be closed next Thursday in observance of Prince Kuhio Day. We know that the population served by our outreach is very fragile and it is critical we continue  this important ministry. I thank all who assist us  for their faithfulness to this effort.

Please go to our website, staugustinebythesea.com, for updates and news. It is our goal to keep you fully informed as we move forward in these days of uncertainty.

Masses are being live-streamed from the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Honolulu each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and can be accessed at https://www.facebook.com/HonoluluCathedralBasilica orwww.hictv.com

Mass is also shown on EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network – Channel 30 for cable customers; Channel 261 for Dish customers) and at Word on Fire:   wordonfire.org/daily-mass

The Scripture readings for Sunday, Solemnity, and Weekday Masses are available at usccb.org/bible/readings. All are encouraged to spend time reflecting on these Scriptures, especially on Sundays.

Although Masses and parish meetings and classes have had to be suspended, we are continuing to respond to critical ministries and urgent pastoral needs. I hope that you will continue to financially support your parish throughout this time. You may make your weekly offering by mailing it to the parish office or going to our website and clicking on the Donate button.

Please know that all of you are in my prayers at Mass each and every day,

Sincerely,

Fr. Lane K. Akiona ss.cc.
